         UNDERGROUND RAIL ROAD QUILTSCAPE             Home
During the 1800's the Log Cabin quilt pattern

always used red as the center square to

represent the heart or hearth of the home.

During the Civil War they would color this block

black and hang the quilt on the clothesline to

signal runaway slaves that "This is a safe house."
